Calling All Moms....

Welcome!!
This quote really got me thinking....

"The influence of a mother in the lives of her children is beyond calculation. The family relationship of father, mother, and child is the oldest and most enduring institution in the world."

Pretty much we have one of the MOST important jobs in the world!!
We can't do it alone...
us moms gotta stick together!!
As the summer is coming to an end,
and a new school year is approaching us-
I want to use this blog to connect and share ideas:

*From the brand of diapers that is BEST to how to discipline your teenager!!
*How to break bad habits in your kids.
*What programs are offered year round for preschool aged kids and younger?
*Anyone know how to get tomato juice out of your carpet?
(just to name a few.....)
No matter how long I search the internet, I seem to find the BEST answers from other MOMS.
we seem to know it all, right?? (wink, wink)
Please join us as we support each other in our hourly, daily, weekly battles as mothers! :)

You aren't alone!
Maybe we can help..... or you can help one of us!

PS- to the right I have listed some of my FAVORITE websites, I feel ALL mom's should check out! When you have time, take a peek.
First topic of descussion is this:

What is the BEST way to potty train your child? What has worked or hasn't worked for you?

(Mine is a 2 yr old boy)

Let's hear what you got!

  1. Take him to the toy store. Let him pick an extravagant toy. Tell him he can't pay with the toy unless he has no accidents. If he has one the toy gets taken away. Tyler chose a scooter. Didn't have an accident again. We told Katie we would get her a scooter and she didn't have any accidents. Good luck!

  2. I used a basic sticker poster board. Wrote their name on it, gave 1 sticker for going pee, 2 for going poop and if there were any accidents, they got a sticker taken away. After a set amount, say 30 stickers, they got a prize from the store. Worked for both my kids!

  3. Just wait until they basically do it themselves. It is more expensive but less (WAY LESS) stress. Right after they turn three is usually when I potty train, or should I say, THEY potty train! By the way, cool idea Brig! Girls' Night?

  4. Learned this one from Dr. Phil - have them pick a stuffed animal or doll and have them teach the doll to use the potty. Then, when the doll "goes" on the potty, throw them a big party and make a huge deal of it - treats, special stickers, a princess crown for the day, etc. Do it a few times if you need to and pretty soon they'll want to go on the potty so they can have a party for themselves! Worked great for both my kids.

On the other hand, I think something that should be avoided is pressuring them really hard or getting angry when they have an accident. That just makes it a miserable experience for everyone!

  5. Those are all AWESOME ideas!! I am going to get working on Carson...
I agree with you Jenni-- getting mad over accidents can be a bad thing.
    Thanks everyone!

  6. Things I figured out after the 1st two-

    1) Wait until they are really ready
    2) Go their pace, no matter how slow
    3) Don't get mad
    4) Have things ready to clean up a mess
    5) Use a timer.

L loves high fives so whenever he pees in the potty he gets a hive five, plus he gets to flush the toilet and say bye bye.

Jenni- I love the doll idea.

  7. I definitely don't have the potty training thing figured out. But I do second the idea of waiting until they are really ready. I waited until 3 with Ethan and he got it in a couple days- no accidents ever after a couple of days.

By the way Brigitte- you were so great with Ethan at his soccer game the other morning.....his favorite cousin (and best friend) moved away that morning and he went to bed really late the night before the game after staying up for the going away party- so it was a rough morning for him and you were super super sweet to him- Thank you!
